Green Pizza Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound whole-wheat dough
  • 2 cups chopped broccoli florets
  • ¼ cup water
  • 6 cups chopped arugula
  • Freshly ground pepper (for taste)
  • Pint of sea salt
  • 1/2 cup prepared pesto
  • 1 cup shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese

Preparation:

Lightly flour a flat surface and roll out the whole-wheat dough. Make the size of the pizza conform to any baking sheet you have. Coat the baking sheet with cooking spray and put the rolled out dough on it.

Bake for 8 to 10 minutes. In a large skillet, cook the broccoli and water until the broccoli is crisp-tender. Stir in chopped arugula until wilted. Season as you’d like with salt and pepper. Once the dough has been cooked, spread the pesto evenly over the crust and top with ingredients from the skillet. Lastly, sprinkle the cheese on top. Bake until the cheese has been melted, another 8 to 10 minutes.

You can use this recipe to create other healthy pizza recipes of your own. Just choose a sauce-base, some healthy toppings like vegetables or fruit, and low and reduced fat cheeses. Always remember that whole-wheat is the healthier option for dough.
